The Ultra-peripheral Region Fair is a high level dialogue platform for the nine ultra-peripheral regions of the European Union: Guadeloupe, French Guiana, Martinique, Mayotte, Reunion Island, Saint-Martin (France), the Azores, Madeira (Portugal) and the Canary Islands (Spain), their member states, the European Union institutions and the civil society.
This event gathers the presidents of the ultra-peripheral regions, the Ministers of their member states, the Commissioner for cohesion and reform and other members of the commission, the stakeholders and experts who want to be inspired by the experience of these unique regions of the EU.
The 2020 Fair will evaluate the unprecedented difficult situation caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and its strong socioeconomic impact on the ultra-peripheral regions. It will approach the post Covid-19 needs of these regions and will identify the solutions for the recovery at a European, national or regional level in order to provide a targeted response to the crisis by focusing on the most affected sectors such as tourism, public transports, employment and agriculture.
In line with the Green Pact for Europe, the Fair will especially focus on three major themes for the ultra-peripheral regions: climate change, circular economy and blue economy which will play a key role in the economic recovery of these regions. The adaptation to climate change and the protection of biodiversity, the introduction of circular economy and the development of a sustainable blue economy will be crucial steps for these peripheral regions to reinforce their resiliency and their sustainable recovery.
The 2020 Ultra-peripheral Region Fair will take place virtually on October 12, 13 and 14, 2020 on the afternoon, from Brussels.
